Nano for the New and the Insane

So it begins. Today, November 1st, is the start of NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month. Are you writing yet? Obviously not.

What are you doing reading this blog?

Just to ease your mind, I wrote this post last night on October 31st, before NaNoWriMo began. As you read this, I should be writing my novel (a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story). Check out my inspirational photos from Croatia.

For those of you who are just getting started, or still haven't decided whether to participate (it's not too late), I'm sending a great free resource your way.

Lazette Gifford is a prolific writer who is starting her tenth NaNoWriMo today. She completes more than the 50,000 words every year.

And she tells you how to do the same.

Gifford has written it all down in a 131 page ebook that she gives away for free. Quite the generous woman.

In the book, Gifford breaks down everything you could possibly need to know about participating in NaNoWriMo, from the planning, your mental focus, to tips and tricks to make it happen. Even if you're not writing a novel this month, Gifford's advice is worth reading.

She offers lots more resources, which I'll share in Thursday's post. Happy writing!
